Schedule 1 - Location specific information
Schedule 1.4 - Taharoa Harbour
In accordance with subclause 4.2.2 (Location specific schedules), any clauses contained in this schedule shall be read in conjunction with all other clauses in this bylaw.
Area covered:
This schedule applies to the coastal waters of Taharoa Harbour, as shown in Map 4. The harbour is defined as all waters inside a circle of radius 5 nautical miles centred on Ironsands Terminal Light L. Fl. (2) W. 20s (Number 4096 NZ Almanac Light List) intersecting a line drawn from Albatross Point 270 degrees true.
S1.4.1 Harbour operations
Within this harbour:
- While any export vessel (bulk transport) is moored to the SBM orange buoy (Number 4099 NZ Almanac Light List) all vessels within the harbour shall maintain a minimum distance of 2 nautical miles from the moored vessel unless engaged in operations relating to the export of ironsand.
- Any vessel navigating within the harbour shall not moor to, tie up to, or in any way attach themselves to the SBM orange buoy without the permission of the harbourmaster, unless that vessel is directly involved in operations relating to the export of ironsands, or unless in an emergency.
- No vessel shall impede the safe navigation of any export vessel while it is navigating within Taharoa Harbour.
- Any vessel navigating within Taharoa Harbour shall maintain a distance of at least 1 nautical mile at all times from any export vessel that is under way, unless that vessel is directly involved in operations relating to the export of ironsands.
- Any vessel navigating within Taharoa Harbour shall observe at all times the fishing and anchoring restrictions as annotated on chart NZ 4424 and shown on Map 4.
S1.4.2 Duty of master of a vessel under 500 gross tonnage
Within Taharoa Harbour, the master of a vessel under 500 gross tonnage must not allow the vessel to impede the navigation of any vessel of 500 gross tonnage1 or more.
