1  Introduction

1.2  The Resource Management Framework

1.2.1 The Resource Management Act

The RMA is the principle statute for the management of natural and physical resources¹. Its stated purpose is to promote the sustainable management of natural and physical resources and it contains a number of principles which must be adhered to by those exercising powers and functions under the RMA. The purpose and principles are stated in Figure 1.
