The following is a summary of the content of Part 3. Terms used are defined in the Glossary.
Overview
Each section of Part 3 contains an overview of the natural and physical resources or issue under consideration. Each overview is a description of the resource or issue and its interaction with the environment which is inclusive of people and communities and the regional economy.
Significant Resource Management Issues
The significant resource management issues for the Waikato Region have been identified through a process which has drawn on both community and technical information1. The significant resource management issues for the Waikato Region are included in each section of Part 3 which also states objectives and policies to address these issues.
Objective, Policies and Methods of Implementation
As well as detailing specific objectives and policies for the Region, and the explanations and principal reasons for those, Part 3 also provides specific methods of implementation to be used to achieve particular resource management outcomes. There are five main ways in which the significant resource management issues will be addressed. These include: environmental education; regulation; liaison and co-ordination; information; and advocacy.
Environmental Results Anticipated
At the end of each sub-section in Part 3 the environmental results anticipated from the implementation of the objectives, policies and methods are stated. The environmental results are one of the measures that will be used to determine the effectiveness of the RPS.
